Bulls win Lottery; O.J. Mayo

The Bulls won the NBA draft lottery. The poor Miami Heat still got the number 2 pick and are in a win-win situation a will get either Michael Beasley or Derrick Rose. I think the bulls should get Michael Beasley because they need the low-post presence in the paint. Joakim Noah is not the answer. Although Kirk Hinrich does have some trade value and they can't go wrong with drafting the Chicago native in Rose. The Miami Heat will also benefit from either one of these All-Americans. I must say the Bulls got lucky. They had a 1.7% chance of winning and some how beat the Heat who has a 25% chance of winning. Im interested to see what the Bulls will do with the top pick.

O.J. Mayo has been in the news none stop and im kind of sick of it. The evidence and allegations against him are huge and could tarnish both his high school and college legacies. However It will not effect his draft status whatsoever. I don't know whether or not to believe him. I want to think he didn't take money but there is a lot of evidence and facts against him. Honestly, who has a flat screen tv in their dorm room? That doesn't seem right. I will keep you posted on this story as information continues to leak. Let me know what you think the NCAA should do?

Buck...I gotta flat screen tv haha. But seriously, Mayo did take some money. There's no way he could afford all the stuff he did without taking extra benefits- and you know what? There's nothing wrong with that, in my opinion. Look, if the ncaa is going to have this stupid one and done deal then they are going to have to expect this type of thing. Do they think Mayo is the first person to take some extra cash? Or that he will be the last? Please, the system is a joke and needs fixing. What really is a shame is all of these administrators and ncaa workers that make 7 figures off of an athlete...and the athlete doesn't get any of that? How does that work? If anything, OJ got screwed by the guy who was giving him the money- he took way more than he gave OJ. Many of these guys have lived tough lives and are going to enter the draft after 1 year so what's wrong with taking money? The ncaa should worry about itself and the money it steals from a 20-year old rather than that 20-year old taking some money.

The Bulls should draft Rose. Beasley is a beast, and is going to be an all-star...but Rose is going to be a hall of famer, fo sho. I pray the Bulls mess up and take Beasley, then my Heat can get Rose. Rose and Dwade in the backcourt? Wow. My Heat better not mess up and take Mayo though as that is the big rumor going around right now. That would piss me off if we passed on Rose or Beasley for Mayo.

No, he probably isn't the only one to ever take money, but he is the only one who got caught. Beamer, dude, do you seriously think that NCAA players should get money? the NCAA has every right to take all they money they want, they last thing these kids need is to be payed in college for playing basketball. And what money is being stolen from the kid? he's on a full scholarship to USC to play a game that he's naturally awesome at. They are the ones who agreed to give the kid 20K a year to play bball....I don't think they are the ones who are stealing money.

I don't actually know much about what happened, but please, if there is something I'm missing, tell me.

My point is not that OJ should be getting paid. I'm saying that if NCAA administrators like Myles Brand and all the various presidents are going to make millions off of these athletes then why shouldn't the kids get money? Do you know how much the NCAA makes for the final foul, march madness, jersey sales, etc. from these kids? The NCAA is a billion dollar business...and they complain when a gets around $30,000? I'm not saying the kids should get paid, what I am saying is that if people are going to make millions...and then bust a guy who toook a few thousand...well, that is pretty hypocritical. Take the BCS bowl games...to play in the sugar bowl, rose bowl, etc. the school gets close to a $10 million dollar bonus. So you're saying the NCAA and the school should take that money even though it's...ummm...the athletes that play the games and make the money for them?

Do you also know how much schools themselves make from boosters, endowments, and that type of thing? Many of these big schools, like USC, could afford to give all of their students free tuition but they don't- don't think that USC is hurting for money at all. It costs about $45,000 to go to USC...and the school is going to make at least 10 times that alone based on Mayo being there for 1 year, and Romeo being there next year.

Mayo isn't actually getting that $45,000 either. The school is just not charging him. He gets meal money and that's about it. So, if someone was making a salary of $10 million off of you, you wouldn't want some of that? You also can't negate the fact that many of these guys grew up in tough circumstances...and the chance to get $30,000 that easy, especially when they've never seen that type of money in their whole life, is something many of these athletes will take. I can't blame them either.

Ok, I'm not disagreeing with you that the college isn't getting shit tons of money because of the kid, check out kylesright.blogspot.com, I agree with you I wrote about it. But you have to think about what this college is giving mayo. If it weren't for USC do you think he would be going into the NBA where he is going to make millions of dollars? No. It's a business that he agreed to deal with when he said he wanted to play for them. So what if the kid doesn't have any money right now? In a couple months he'll be making more money than most of us can fathom. USC has every right to take the money "that the athletes are making for them" they are the ones giving the kid the opportunity of a lifetime.

And, no, mayo isn't getting $45,000, but he isn't losing it either. If it weren't for the school giving him that scholarship, he would be in the hole $45,000.

Mayo has been on the map since 8th grade. He would be in the NBA right now if there wasn't the one and done year of school, so he would be making millions. That's the risk many of the high school players take but Mayo is one of the ones that would at least get drafted high out of high school. USC didn't really do anything for Mayo, if anything they almost hurt his draft stock and his chance at many more millions.

The point I'm making is people need to not be shocked that a guy took money and that with the obscene money people make off of Mayo, what's the big deal? There is also the fact that these athletes have never seen $30,000 in their lives nor have they had people able to buy hotel rooms and what not. It wouldn't be easy to turn down money if it is something that you've never had in your life. Do you honestly think you could turn down free tv's, cell phones, hotel rooms, etc. if you were in Mayos situation? You can't say for sure because these guys literally grew up in the worst places imagineable. But this definitely shouldn't be such a huge issue considering the hypocrisy that is taking place.

----Buck, what do you think about all of this?

I think that it should be a non issue. I dont think it gives the players an advantage if they are getting a little money on the side. Morally, yes its wrong but theres no way to keep track of all the kids that receive money here and there. Eevn if its 10 bucks to get a pizza.I hope O.J. doesnt get into any trouble because the fact that he is getting money doesnt take away from the career he had in both high school and college.
